Personal Liability

Arthur Hall Insurance / Practice Areas  / Personal Lines / Personal Liability

What if your dog attacks the postman? Or a minor auto accident leads to a major lawsuit? The results could be financially devastating.

Umbrella or Excess Liability insurance policies offer higher limits of protection to cover damages for which you or members of our household may be legally responsible beyond the limits of your primary insurance policy.  It is an additional policy that would respond once the underlying liability policy limits on the auto or home insurance policies are exhausted.  If someone suffers significant injuries and you were found to be responsible, you want to make sure you have enough liability coverage to protect your personal financial assets.

How much is enough coverage? We recommend that you consider the total value of the assets you may wish to protect, the perceived scope of the risks that you may face, and the impact of a potential loss of future income. The premium associated with these policies are minimal for the peace of mind that they help provide.  It’s something you should consider, especially if:

  • Your assets exceed your liability limits
  • Children are financially dependent on you
  • You frequently volunteer
  • Own secondary homes or rental properties
  • Have a swimming pool
  • Own pets, animals or horses
  • Own watercraft or any off-road vehicles
